HORSE AND GREYHOUND BETTING SYSTEM

Section 1 - The System

I have made substantial profit through the laying of horses and greyhounds over the last number of years and this ebook highlights one my favourites systems I use on a daily basis.

With laying, my core believe is that no one system should be overused. Instead, a collection of strategies should be used at the same time. This helps avoid the 12 steps forward, 13 steps backwards outcome with laying. It is a great way to earn cash but you need a systematic approach to avoid laying based on greed, impatience or boredom.

Each day, I spend about 30 minutes going through race cards, picking out potential lay bets and applying numerous strategies. Show me any race card, and within seconds, I will identify a number of strategies which can be used to earn a profit (if you are interested in reading further on this concept, my ebook Dominate The Field Laying System may be of substantial interest to you - if so, contact me)

Anyway, over the years, day after day, I scanned through racecards, and I soon discovered a system so simple, yet so effective.

I have called it the Horse & Greyhound Power Earner.

This is a very quick and simple system, which is based solely on risk minimisation.

10-15 minutes of scanning horse and greyhound race cards each day WILL earn you a serious profit over time.

The core rule is as follows:

On a daily basis, as you are scanning through each race card, you may come across two horses with odds of under 2.50 to win the race. If this is the case, lay them both.

Such scenarios are common in horse races with a low amount of runners - e.g. 3/4/5 runners in the race.

Likewise, greyhound racing is usually limited to 6 traps. On a regular basis, you will come across two dogs with odds of under 2.50 to win - and with this system, like horse racing, you will also lay them both.

While there is a high probability you will lose your lay stake (e.g. one of the horses/dogs will win), your risk will be a maximum of 0.50.

If one of your lay bets wins the race, the other lay bet (which lost the race) will offset the majority of the loss. If neither win the race, you make a very large profit (two winning lay bets).

Examples will follow.

So far I have showed you a selection system that is more prone to lose you a small amount. You might even question if this is a better suited strategy for a backing system.

The magic of this system is explained in the next section.

Section 2 - Staking

This is a system ideal for a Martingale staking strategy. I have just mentioned the ‘M’ word, and you may be instantly skeptical, but I urge you to read on.

If you are unfamiliar or unclear with a Martingale staking strategy, I have provided a detailed overview in the Appendix further on.

Applying Martingale in the majority of cases is a dangerous venture. However, with this system, it is the key to a very consistent and safe profit.

As your loss can only be about 25% of your lay stake (0.50 of a maximum of 2.50), the stakes required to recoup past losses are no where near as aggressive using the traditional Martingale method. Only one horse or dog can win a race!

With traditional Martingale, the aim is to aggressively attempt to defend a loss. The key aim of the Power Earner is to use Martingale to aggressively seek a profit.

Under traditional Martingale, the odds are usually limited to and capped at evens (2.0). This means that you must double your stake after each loss to recoup your loss - 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64. With this staking plan, the 25% of your stake is at risk. This means that the sequence needed to recoup your loss is no where near as exponential - 2, 2.4, 2.9, 3.5, 4.2, 5.

This is nicely demonstrated below. *Commision is ignored in this example and all further examples through the ebook.

If this was traditional Martingale at even odds, the lay stakes would have been:

Bet 1 - £200

Bet 2 - £400

Bet 3 - £800

Bet 4 - £1,600

Bet 5 - £3,200

As you can see, without getting overly aggressive in the stake progression, there is plenty of room to aggressively seek a strong profit. At Bet 5, you are getting the same level of profit exposure but only committing about 15% of the stake as you would under the traditional Martingale system.

With traditional Martingale, when the win comes, the profit is very small. With this staking strategy, when the win comes, it is huge compared to your previous losses.

The below table demonstrates a longer sequence of losses using more conservative stakes.

Remember, the previous example highlights a long sequence of losses, and a strong profit is still earned by the end of it. The longest sequence I have experienced to date has been 9 losses before a win.

Often, you may even win your sequence after Bet 1 or 2 as nicely highlighted below.

The next few paragraphs are discussed firstly from a horse racing point of view, and then from a greyhound racing point of view

Horse Racing -

If you are an experienced and regularly lay bettor, this is an ideal system to keep in the background as a bet opportunity might only come about once every day or so. As you will be scanning the race cards daily as part of your other laying activities, there isn’t a huge time commitment to spot a qualifying race (e.g. two horses with odds of 2.50 or less in the same race).

If you are inexperienced with laying or only seeking one system, this is ideal as well. Scanning the race cards to find a qualifying bet takes a few minutes work. There may be some days where you find no qualifying races. But when you do, this strategy and staking plan pays off handsomely.

Greyhound Racing -

This system can be applied far more often to greyhound racing. In the UK & Ireland there is a greyhound race every few minutes for about 10 hours a day. Greyhound racing is generally limited to 6 traps as well.

As a result, you may come across a number of races each day with two dogs running at a price of below 2.50.

The only problem is, unlike horse racing, greyhound racing requires more of a time commitment by you. As greyhound prices are generally not available until a few minutes before the actual race, you will need to monitor Betfair/Betdaq on an ongoing basis to

identify such opportunities. Unlike horse racing, where the spread between the back and lay price is usually at the minimum (0.01), this does not occur for greyhound racing until literally a few minutes before the race starts.

In reality, this will require you to hit refresh every few minutes, but with the large potential payoff from using this system, it is a small sacrifice.

For some, this may not be possible (e.g. due to work, driving etc), so for that reason, horse racing may be far more suited to you as you can scan the racecards the night before or that morning. However, as greyhound racing is on in the early morning and late evening, it might fit in with your time schedule.

Betdaq - a very quick mention. Betdaq might prove a better option for those with lower banks. The 50p minimum betting stake means your betting bank needs to be only ¼ the size of the bank you need for Betfair (the Betfair minimum betting stake is £2).

Section 3 - Conclusion

As I mentioned, this is a system that I keep in the background and use in conjunction with several other systems. I scan the race cards on a daily basis anyway, so there is not a huge amount of additional time commitment for me to do this. I also put some time aside to monitor the greyhound prices occasionally, but my preference is usually horse racing.

For some, this system in itself can be the only betting system they need. The first example I highlighted showed a profit of £200 after 5 bets. For most, £200 profit a week for a few minutes work would be considered extremely successful. Think how hard you would have to work for £200 in your day job!

As I also mentioned, my longest sequence of losses has been 9. You can see that the stakes keep within a comfortable level, even after several losses. You should also have several wins before any long sequence of losses occurs. If you side pocket the previous gained profits, this will help your psychology substantially.

The key to laying is find a system, and remain disciplined. Setting criteria in advance allows you to achieve this.

Can the odds be over 2.50? I rarely take this approach, but there is potential to raise your threshold to 2.75. This will mean you find more qualifying races.

My closing advice is to find a price range that you are comfortable with, set realistic and achievable targets, and consider laying to be a long term project rather than a quick money maker. Think about where you want to be profit wise on Day 100, or Day 200 rather than the profit you want to make on the next race or by the end of the day.

No matter the price, there is money out there ready to be made, and this ebook sets you with a steady foundation to do so.

Appendix

Martingale System

This is a primitive and highly effective method over the short and medium term. Banks will be sunk with this method, but it is also very possible to earn profit many times the size of your bank before this happens. You have probably heard of Martingale before and may be dismissive. The Horse & Greyhound Power Earner uses an adopted and safe version of Martingale as the staking plan.

With any backing and laying strategies, there will be many many losing bets. The Martingale seeks to solve this issue through a staking strategy whereby after each losing bet, the stake is doubled (assuming 2.0 odds) to recuperate the prior loss and earn a

profit. Here is a quick example. *Commision is ignored in this example and all further examples through the ebook.

Martingale is usually applied by most to prices of 2.0.

As you can see, by progressing the stakes, you keep betting until you win. There are a few very obvious problems with this.

• The progression of stakes is quite aggressive, which requires a large bank. If bet 3 in the example previous lost, it would require the next stake to be £160

• Over the long term - your bank will sink. That is a statistical fact
• People tend to overuse this system or fail to tailor it for flexibility

Martingale is mistakenly very popular in Roulette, but I feel if applied to horse racing or other sports, you stand a far better chance with this strategy, as opposed to Roulette, which can be rigged or naturally unbiased to the laws of probability. Please note that I do not recommend this version of Martingale in most circumstances.

One further point. When applying Martingale to prices under 2.0, the stakes do not aggressively progress as they do when the odds are exactly 2.0. The table below demonstrates a conservative progression of stakes when the odds are on average 1.50.

With Martingale, you probably will do very well in the short/medium term as mentioned. A 2.00 priced horse statistically has a 1 in 2 chance of either winning or losing. For a 1.50 priced horse, this is a 1 in 3 chance of losing. When you get to bets 3, 4, 5 etc, statistical probability is heavily on your side. Using selection criteria to eliminate unsuitable horses can add to your statistical advantage - see my other ebook ‘Dominate The Field’’ for more information.

If you do insist on using Martingale, the key is to set modest targets and stick to them e.g. seek to increase your bank by 20%. Once you achieve this, stop at this point and perhaps come back with a new target a few weeks later. There are plenty of other laying strategies out there, and diversification is the absolute key as it helps prevent overusing any one system.

Again (!), Martingale will lead to a sunk bank at some stage, but its very possible to build up strong past profits from previous Martingale targets, as well as other ongoing laying systems to help soften this blow substantially.

Martingale is a dangerous staking system, but when applied with criteria and a far less aggressive staking strategy, it can potentially lead to a very good stream of profit. If you are laying horses where the average odds are below 2.00 or 1.75, you can even decrease each sequence on the staking plan - e.g. if the average odds are 1.60, the sequence below will really provide a good stream of profit but far aggressive stake progression.
